FAQ

1. How NUTRILITE™ products are produced?

At the facility where NUTRILITE Products are manufactured, our standards of quality in manufacturing are as much a part of our company culture as our traditional farming practices. Hygienic (clean) rooms and well-cared-for equipment are one measure of excellence. Another is the level of expertise demonstrated by staff throughout the manufacturing process.

  • Plants are harvested at their nutritional peak and transported as quickly as possible to our dehydration facility.
  • The concentration process uses specialised equipment in a state-of-the-art facility to dehydrate, mill, and extract nature's richest nutrients from the plants – creating excellent nutritional concentrates.
  • Each batch of concentrate powder is tested to ensure it is free of contaminants and of proper potency.
  • Computer-controlled scales measure the exact weight and amount of each concentrate powder.
  • The various powders are then blended into different mixtures.
  • The different mixtures are compressed into tablets, coated with a special solution for easier swallowing, and inspected closely for cracks or chips.
  • Finished tablets are sealed in specially-designed containers to maintain freshness.

Although not required, we choose to follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) to ensure that NUTRILITE products are safe, properly identified, and of the highest quality.

2. What quality tests are performed on NUTRILITE products?

Quality experts for the NUTRILITE brand perform over 15.000 tests a month on our products. Seven different types of tests are performed to ensure quality:

  • Dissolution Testing checks for the ability of a nutrient to go into a solution.
  • Disintegration Testing ensures the tablets disintegrate in 30 minutes or less.
  • Micro Limit Testing checks plate counts and the absence of pathogens.
  • Macro-Nutrient Testing checks for the amounts of fat, fibre, protein and carbohydrates.
  • Micro-Nutrient Testing ensures label claims for all vitamins, minerals and other nutrients.
  • Raw Material Testing ensures the raw materials are the right quality to make the tablets.
  • Stability Testing checks the shelf-life of the tablets.

3. How long are NUTRILITE products on storage shelves before being packaged and shipped?

On average, tablets are stored in the warehouse for less than one week before they are packaged and shipped to more than 50 different countries.

4. Why are some NUTRILITE products in capsule and some in tablet form?

The main factor that determines whether to use a capsule or tablet delivery form is the physical characteristics of the active ingredients. We choose the form that offers the best formula characteristics and stability of active ingredients.

5. Why do some NUTRILITE products need to be chewed and some swallowed?

The main factor that determines whether to make a product chewable or to be swallowed is our target consumer.  For example, if we have a supplement targeted to children or that children may consume, we make it chewable so it is easier for them to consume. Also, some adults have difficulty swallowing tablets so they can use these products as well.

It is difficult to make great tasting chewable tablets as many of the actives ingredients do not taste very good. Also, more ingredients like flavours and sweeteners are required for a chewable tablet. For these reasons we limit their use largely to  multivitamins and single entity vitamins such as vitamin C, vitamin E, iron and calcium magnesium also suitable for children.

6. Are synthetic vitamins ever used in NUTRILITE products?

Some NUTRILITE products contain vitamins from both natural and synthetic sources. We use both sources as some of our supplements would not supply the optimum nutrient levels without synthetic vitamins. In these cases, delivering enough nutrients without synthetic vitamins would require tablets that would be far too large for human consumption.

So some products are formulated with a combination of synthetic vitamins and plant concentrates to deliver the important phytonutrients along with the nutritional levels that are consistent with leading science.

7. Do all natural ingredients come from our farms? If not then what criteria is the selection of suppliers based on?

While we strive to grow as many of the plants that go into our concentrates as we can, the total product demand makes it impossible to produce and manufacture all of the ingredients and quantities required. But plant concentrates used in NUTRILITE products that have not been grown on our own farms must meet strict quality standards by agricultural scientists working on NUTRILITE products. They have established the NutriCert program to certify suppliers and move them towards the NUTRILITE brand philosophy of sustainable farming and socially responsible business practices.

The 5 main principles of the NutriCert program include:

  • Crop and vegetation diversity,
  • Healthy soil-building practices,
  • No soil or environmental contamination,
  • In-depth quality control standards,
  • Building a healthy social environment around the farm.

You can find more about 5 main principles in section Nutrilite farming.

8. Why we need food supplements?

For optimal well-being we need more than 45 essential nutrients every day. The most important is food choice to make sure that we get enough of the essential nutrients. Vitamins and minerals are found in foods in minute quantities and are required by the body for proper functioning.

Even though we are aware of the body’s nutritional requirements may not always receive all the beneficial nutrients in the correct amount within an average modern diet.

Many factors can also reduce the nutritional content of the foods that are placed on a table, such as transportation, storage, cleaning, cooking and processing. Therefore by using food supplements we can ensure that we are receiving at least the recommended daily amount of nutrients.

9. Do I need to consider supplementation?

When it comes to nutrition and supplementation, no two individuals are the same. Because of that the answer is not an easy yes or no.

Recommendations for people differ with nutritional needs and involve many aspects and issues such as:

  • Food choices
  • Lifestage
  • Lifestyles

Poor food choices due to a number of factors like lack of variety, processed food, fast food consumption and inadequate number of servings contribute to nutritional deficiencies.

The lifestage like infancy, childhood, adolescence, pregnancy and lactation, aging may add additional nutrient requirements.

Lifestyle is a major influence on diet. Factors like skipping meals, stressful lifestyle, dieting and taking less than 1800 calories may decrease nutrient intake. Exercising, smoking, caffeine, alcohol and pollution can increase nutrient needs.

With considering all these aspects you will get answers on do you need supplementation and which nutrition you need.

10. Which NUTRILITE products can be recommended to pregnant women?

We are recommending that pregnant women check with their doctor before taking any supplements.

11. Can more NUTRILITE products be taken together?

With the exception of the multivitamin/multimineral products, all of the NUTRILITE products are compatible. One should choose between Daily, Chewable Multivitamin or DOUBLE X™ Food Supplement as your foundation multivitamin/multimineral product. The other vitamin and mineral products can be supplemented as needed.

12. When NUTRILITE products need to be taken?

You should always follow the use instructions on the product label. However, our most common recommendation is to take your NUTRILITE supplements with food. This is to reduce any stomach upset that may occur when taken on an empty stomach. Also, absorption of fat-soluble vitamins is better when they are taken with food.

The best time for most people to take their NUTRILITE supplements is with their morning and/or evening meal as this regimen usually results in the most consistent use.

13. How long I can take NUTRILITE products? Any time limitation?

Many vitamins and minerals can be taken in combinations for years to assure adequate nutritional intake. There are millions of people globally who have taken supplements throughout almost all of their adult life.

There are some herbs which can interact with medicines that we need to be careful with but vitamin/mineral combinations at suggested levels are usually quite safe. Make sure to follow directions on the package.

In case you take medicine check with your doctor before taking any herbal supplements.

14. Can NUTRILITE food supplements treat any diseases?

No, food supplements can not treat any diseases. By using food supplements you can ensure that you are receiving at least the recommended daily amount of nutrition.

15. Can I use the products after expiry date?

No, it is not recommended to use the products after expiry date. After expiry date we cannot guarantee for quality and quantity of the nutrient in the products any more.

16. What is a food supplement?

A food or nutrition or dietary supplement is a product that contains one or more dietary ingredients such as vitamins, minerals, herbs or other botanicals, amino acids, or other ingredients used to supplement the diet. Food supplements can also be extracts or concentrates, and may be found in many forms such as tablets, capsules, softgels, gelcaps, liquids, or powders.

Many diets may be lacking necessary nutritional components due to improper eating and lifestyle habits. If the diet is less than adequate, it is likely to be deficient in several nutrients. Supplementing with food supplements may provide the nutrients that are missing from such diet.

17. What makes NUTRILITE products different from other food supplements?

To achieve optimal well-being you need to select the right food and supplements, engaging in exercise and rest, and incorporate healthy habits and balance in everything you do.

The values of the NUTRILITE brand are:

  1. Experience and heritage value: In 1927 one man had a revolutionary idea – to create a food supplement to enhance well-being. Carl Rehnborg went on to develop what is believed to be the first multivitamin food supplement in 1934. More than 70 years of experience in research, farming, processing and manufacturing.
  2. Plant/Botanical value: Crops used for ingredients used in NUTRILITE products are grown using sustainable farming methods. Instead of relying on harmful pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilisers, we let nature do the work. Some of the methods used at Nutrilite farms are Integrated Pest Management, Pest Control, Weed Control and Soil Management.
  3. Trust value: The NUTRILITE brand has competed control over every step, from planting, growing and harvesting the crops, through manufacture, to the final packaged product.
  4. Science value: Leadership in the dietary supplement industry demands that a company be on the cutting edge of science. The Nutrilite Health Institute takes it's leadership role very seriously, with an ever-growing list of granted patents demonstrating that NUTRILITE products and associated processes truly are differentiated from other brands in the marketplace.
The patents granted to scientists and researchers working on NUTRILITE Products help to improve the NUTRILITE brand by complementing our high-quality products with technology that is unique to the brand.

When comes to creating and producing NUTRILITE products, there is no compromise for us.

18. Why do NUTRILITE products not have FDA certificates?

The FDA (Food & Drug Administration) is an authority in the United States. Therefore such certification is not relavant for the European markets. Furthermore NUTRILITE products are not drugs, and as such they would not be submitted to the FDA for approval before commercialisation anyway.

Of course, all our marketed NUTRILITE products are in compliance with any relevant European and local legislation and have been notified/registered according to local requirements.

19. Why some of the products have different formulas in Europe?

Countries within Europe have different laws, directives, regulations and other local legal requirements which regulate the food supplement products. To be in compliance with applicable legislation some products have different formulas across Europe.
